Role: UX Writer/In-product content design
At Abstract I serve as the lead writer on the primary product but, I also:
consult on marketing copy,
jump in and out of satellite projects,
work with user education to create a seamless user experience, and
teach the designers on my team how to write great copy so I have time for my other responsibilities.
Much of my work is verbal, takes place in meetings and conversations, or involves small changes to get our voice and tone just right.
I’ve been stepping in as a temporary lead researcher and working on a “text editor usability burr” project. I’m also developing a series of mini writing workshops, writing informational Slack spots, and leading “Shop-talk”—a series of conversations focused on the future of our industry.
Below are examples of the more tangible problem spaces that I’ve worked in. For each of these projects, I served as the lead content writer working with a team of four or five designers.
Projects
Billing Flow
Problem: Outdated and error ridden copy plagued copy spots throughout the billing flow. I needed to correct errors as well as work as a team to reimagine our billing system and create a self-service environment for users.
Insight pie charts
Problem: User testing identified confusion when it came to understanding the purpose of the pie charts in our Insights feature. Our designers wanted to try introducing the feature as is prior to re-designing the problem space.
Slack integration
Problem: User testing revealed that there was much interest in integrating Notebooks with Slack.
New account flows
Problem: With a new product comes new account options and information. To complicate matters, we took this opportunity to change all the old product’s account options.
